THE RIDE

IN 2020, THE WORLD'S BIGGEST
AND OLDEST MOTORCYCLE RALLY TURNS 80.

Sturgis is a town known the world over for its annual motorcycle rally, which regularly attracts more than 400,000 riders from the four corners of the globe. For the 80th running of this iconic event, up to one million motorcycle enthusiasts are expected to make the pilgrimage to the small town of Sturgis, in the Black Hills of South Dakota. It's here they will experience all of the excitement, the camaraderie and the entertainment that has made the rally such a drawcard.

For 2020, a group of Melbourne enthusiasts intend to make their ride to Sturgis a national focus and fund-raiser for the on-going battle against the ‘Black Dog’, otherwise known as Clinical Depression.

The idea for the ride came about as the result of discussions between four Melbourne motorcycle enthusiasts, Gordon Forrester, Max Hayes and Chris and Jack Beattie. From a few ideas thrown around at Gordon’s Sturgis-themed garage and bar, it has grown to include a fund-raising theme to raise awareness of, and support research into the causes of clinical depression, a major health issue affecting millions of Australians.

Gordon has built two very special, all-black Sturgis-tribute Harley-Davidsons that, along with other bikes, will be ridden from Los Angeles to Sturgis to the 80th Anniversary Sturgis Rally in July-August 2020.

We invite other motorcycle enthusiasts to join us and help raise funds for the Black Dog Institute along the way.
